…at the Overture Center for the Arts.

The show is up! Now on view through June 25th, 2011. Meet the artists at the reception Gallery Night, Friday, May 6, 6pm.
More info: Overture Center, Gallery 1

Hand- colored woodcut, printed on masa, then mounted on plywood cutout form and varnished. By the way, that's a Golden-Laced Wyandotte, cock. Maximus was one of my first roosters (bros with Big Tiny).
It’s a huge relief to be done with this and have it up on display. I mean it was fun to do, but printing by hand with a wooden spoon (my press is “only” 30in wide….the chicken block is a 4ft x 8ft plywood block) is not easy, especially with so much solid black. An exercise in patience most definitely.

Well the reviews are mixed regarding S.V. Medaris’ Master of Arts exhibit, Consumption. Here’s a reaction to one of the large-scale pieces (*hint* click image to enlarge):
The Magnificent Seven

Boy critics voice opinion through interpretive stance, in front of "The Magnificent Seven", a 14ft x 9ft mixed media piece (acrylic and printmaking on canvas and feedsacks) by S.V. Medaris
(click on any photo to see larger version)

"The Magnificent Seven" by S.V. Medaris • 14ft x 9ft • Mixed media (acrylic and printmaking on canvas and feedsacks)
And some more photos from the closing reception:

"The dark M&M's are terrific!"

Young girl poses for camera, ignoring the hogs closing in behind her.
I ♥ Chicken

Looking through the window, into the interior light of "I ♥ Chicken."
Here it is, closed:

"I ♥ Chicken" by S.V. Medaris • 12in x 8in x 4in • found objects, light, recycled prints, acrylic on specimen box.

A Wisconsin Tradition

Yes, the dark m&m's were a hit.

in the wash. This is after I heatset, heatset, heatset… You see, you can’t screenprint all these layers of water-based ink onto t-shirts, since the ink can’t soak in/adhere to the t-shirt fabric. Next time, I have to design the colors so that each color comes in contact with shirt (color seps…). Good, harsh lesson

- T-shirts!
20 tees, 6 color design, hand-registered, hand-inked serigraphy.
So, the model for this rooster was one of the original “Bad Boys” given to me by a neighbor who moved away. It was soon after that I learned never to say “yes” to an offer of free roosters…. Although, they WERE great models, and are featured in a number of pieces–a painting, some prints….
